EPIC Racewear is listed on the SFI Foundation's official participating manufacturer registry for SFI Spec 3.2A (covering 3.2A/1 and 3.2A/5) and SFI Spec 3.4 (covering 3.4/5 NASCAR-rated suits). When you order a fire suit from us, you are ordering from the manufacturer — the same manufacturer named on the SFI certification tag inside your suit.
That matters because it means your suit is built to the actual specification, not approximated by a reseller importing generic product. SFI certification requires the certifying manufacturer's name to appear on the product. Ours does.
Choose Your SFI Rating
Every series has its own minimum requirement. Here is how EPIC Racewear's SFI suit lineup maps to what Canadian and US racers actually need:
SFI 3.2A/1 — Single Layer Fire Suit
Entry-level SFI certification for club racing, recreational events, and any series accepting a single-layer fire suit. Lighter and more comfortable than multi-layer suits. Custom design and sizing included.
Best for: club oval, time attack, arrive-and-drive, and beginner classes that require a fire suit but not multi-layer construction.
SFI 3.2A/5 — Two Layer Fire Suit
The most widely required fire suit rating in North American motorsport. Two-layer construction — available in Nomex or FR Cotton — delivers substantially higher Thermal Protective Performance than a single-layer suit. Required by most Canadian and US oval, road course, and dirt series.
Best for: short track oval, dirt late model, SCCA, CASC, ASN Canada road racing, and any series mandating two-layer protection.
SFI 3.4/5 — NASCAR Rated Fire Suit
Three-layer construction rated to the highest SFI standard for stock car racing. Required for NASCAR-sanctioned weekly series competition at all levels. EPIC Racewear is an official SFI 3.4/5 listed manufacturer — one of only a small number of custom manufacturers in North America carrying this certification.
Best for: NASCAR Weekly Racing Series, Late Model Stock, Super Late Model, and all NASCAR-sanctioned events.
SFI 3.2A/15 & 3.2A/20 — Multi-Layer Drag Racing Suits
Purpose-built for NHRA licensed drag racers. Multi-layer Nomex construction with built-in arm restraints for high-index bracket and pro classes.
Best for: NHRA Top Alcohol, Pro Mod, and any class specifying 3.2A/15 or 3.2A/20 in the NHRA rulebook.
Nomex or FR Cotton — What's the Difference?
Nomex is the benchmark material for professional motorsport fire suits. Lighter, more breathable, and more flexible than FR Cotton. The right choice for drivers who want maximum comfort during long races or compete in warm conditions.
FR Cotton (Proban®) uses a flame-resistant cotton outer shell. More durable and heavier than Nomex, at a price point accessible for weekly and club racers. Excellent abrasion resistance and a natural feel on the skin.
Both materials are available across all SFI certification levels. Not sure which is right for you? Read our SFI Rating Guide for Canadian Racers.
