What to Know Before You Buy a Karting Suit

A karting suit is not a fire suit. This is the most important thing to understand before you order. Karting suits are built for abrasion protection — if you go off and slide across asphalt or dirt at speed, a Cordura suit keeps road rash off your body. They are not flame-retardant and do not carry SFI 3.2A or FIA 8856 fire certifications.

The threat in karting is impact and abrasion, not fire. That is why every EPIC Racewear karting suit uses a Cordura outer shell — the same abrasion-resistant material trusted in motorcycle riding gear and professional motorsport overalls.

If your kart series requires a fire-rated suit, you need one of our SFI racing suits instead. Check your sanctioning body's rulebook before ordering.

Club-Spec vs FIA Grade 1 — Which Do You Need?

Club-Spec Karting Suits

Our club-spec karting suits match the same Cordura construction and custom design options as our FIA homologated suits — without the FIA homologation certificate. This makes them ideal for:

  • Arrive-and-drive sessions
  • Club karting nights
  • Regional non-sanctioned series
  • Practice days and test days
  • Entry-level competitive racing where homologation is not required

Club-spec suits are the smart choice if your series does not explicitly require FIA homologation. You get the same build quality at a more accessible price point.

FIA Grade 1 Karting Suits (FIA 8877-2022)

Our FIA Grade 1 karting suits carry full FIA 8877-2022 homologation — the current FIA international karting specification. Required for:

  • ASN Canada FIA karting championships
  • Eastern Canada Karting Championship events
  • Rotax Max Challenge Canada
  • Most sanctioned national and international karting events

If your series rulebook specifies FIA homologation, this is the suit you need. Do not assume a club-spec suit will be accepted at sanctioned events — always verify with your series official.

Sublimated or Embroidered — Your Choice

Every EPIC Racewear karting suit is available in full dye-sublimation or embroidered finish.

Sublimated karting suits deliver full-colour, edge-to-edge printing across every panel. The best option for complex designs, gradient colours, or sponsor logos that need pixel-precise placement. Colours will not crack, fade, or peel after a season of racing.

Embroidered karting suits use raised thread logos and text for a premium, structured look. Ideal for drivers who want a clean, professional finish with standout branding on a solid or two-tone base.

Not sure which is right for your design? Contact EPIC Racewear and we will walk you through both options with examples.

Youth and Junior Karting Suits

EPIC Racewear builds karting suits for junior and cadet drivers as well as adults. Youth suits follow the same custom construction process — your young driver's measurements, design, and any junior series sponsor requirements are all accommodated. Every suit is built to fit, not sized down from an adult template.

Karting Suit Care and Longevity

A Cordura karting suit built by EPIC Racewear is designed to last multiple seasons when properly maintained. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang to dry, and avoid high heat. Keep the suit away from fuel and oil exposure where possible — while Cordura is highly abrasion resistant, prolonged chemical exposure degrades any fabric over time.

Complete Your Karting Kit

A karting suit works best as part of a complete setup. EPIC Racewear also builds:

FAQ Schema (add via Rank Math FAQ Block)

Q: What is the difference between a karting suit and a fire suit? A karting suit is designed for abrasion protection — Cordura fabric protects against road rash if you slide at speed. It is not flame-retardant and does not carry fire safety certifications like SFI 3.2A. If your series requires a fire-rated suit, you need an SFI or FIA fire suit, not a karting suit. Check your rulebook before ordering.

Q: Do I need an FIA homologated karting suit? It depends on your series. Sanctioned national and international karting events — including ASN Canada FIA events, Eastern Canada Karting Championship, and Rotax Max Challenge Canada — require FIA 8877-2022 Grade 1 homologation. Club and regional non-sanctioned series typically accept club-spec suits. Always verify with your series official before ordering.

Q: Can I get a fully custom karting suit with my sponsor logos? Yes. Every karting suit from EPIC Racewear is custom-built with your design, sponsor logos, driver name, and exact measurements. Both sublimated and embroidered options are available. Custom design and custom sizing are included at no additional charge.

Q: Do you make karting suits for youth and junior drivers? Yes. EPIC Racewear builds karting suits for junior and cadet drivers using the same custom construction process as adult suits. Youth suits are sized from your driver's actual measurements, not scaled down from adult templates.

Q: Do you ship karting suits to the United States? Yes. EPIC Racewear ships custom karting suits to both Canada and the USA. US customers can order and pay in USD. Production and shipping timelines are the same for both markets — approximately 3–4 weeks from approved design proof.
